Greene County district court, week ending Oct. 2

In Greene County district court Christopher Herbert Lawrence, 35, of Ames was sentenced Sept. 25 after changing his plea to guilty Sept. 2 to charges of driving while license barred, carrying weapons and possession of methamphetamine. On the driving while barred charge, Lawrence was sentenced to two years in prison. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. The court found Lawrence is unable to pay the fine and surcharge, as well as $180 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and suspended those amounts due.

On the weapons charge, a fine of $625 with a $218.75 surcharge were also suspended. Lawrence was sentenced to two years in prison, consecutive to the previous sentence. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. On the drug charge, Lawrence was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE), and a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge. Those amounts due were not suspended. Lawrence was sentenced to 365 days in the county jail, concurrent to the prison term. All but 48 hours was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense, and his driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. Court costs were $100. A companion case in magistrate court in which Lawrence was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)

Jeremy Alan Culbertson, 44, of Perry was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Kester)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: James Leon Cunningham, 40, of Jefferson, child endangerment; Angela Marie Roper, 42, of Churdan, possession of methamphetamine-first offense and possession of marijuana-first offense; Omar Felan Estrada, 29, of Grand Junction, domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury; and Trevor Nichols, 30, of Scranton, domestic abuse assault causing injury. Trial dates were set for Dec. 15 in every case.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Fredrick Joseph Joy, 54, of Carroll, operating vehicle without owner’s consent; Jody Lyn Schad, 40, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; Tammy L. Kirk, 42, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated-first offense; Deann Marie Goff, 33, of Jefferson, theft-fourth degree; Andrew Steven Gathercaol, 21, of Grand Junction, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Rowdy Lee Renwanz, 20, of Gowrie, possession of marijuana-second offense; Christopher Hollis Christian, 35, of Grand Junction, manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of marijuana; Desmond Antoione Bell, 38, of Grand Junction, domestic abuse assault impeded air/blood flow and child endangerment (two counts); and Michelle A. Christian, 30, of Grand Junction, manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.
